چکیده

It was with great interest that I read the article, entitled “Serum Irisin Level Can Predict the Severity of Coronary Artery Disease in Patients with Stable Angina,” published in the Korean Circulation Journal,1) a leading journal in cardiology and cardiac surgery. I would like to congratulate Efe et al.1) on their contributions to our knowledge of the circulatory physiology and biochemistry of the heart, as well as the mechanisms underlying stable angina. However, considering a number of pre-analytical errors and the incorrect citation of some sources, which I specify below, I think it would be useful to revisit and reinterpret this article.

Association of Serum Irisin Concentrations with Presence and Severity of Coronary Artery Disease

BACKGROUND Irisin, an exercise-induced myokine, is closely correlated with obesity and body mass index. Obesity is one risk factor of coronary artery disease (CAD). Therefore, the present study aimed to determine if serum irisin concentrations are correlated with the presence and severity of CAD. MATERIAL AND METHODS Serum irisin concentrations were determined in 350 patients with CAD and in 21...

Evaluation of Extracellular Circulating Human MicroRNA-197 as a Target Biomarker in Patients with Coronary Artery Disease

Background:  Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) refers to the reduction or blockage of all or part of the coronary arteries due to the process of atherosclerosis or the presence of a clot. The aim of this study was to investigate the association of serum miR-197 as a diagnostic index in patients with coronary artery disease. Methods: In this study, 100 patients with CAD were selected. Serum Irisin Level Can Predict the Severity of Coronary Artery Disease in Patients with Stable Angina

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES The recently discovered myokine irisin has a proposed role in adipose tissue metabolism. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between serum irisin level and the coronary artery severity in patients with stable coronary artery disease (CAD). SUBJECTS AND METHODS Sixty-three patients who underwent coronary angiography (CA) diagnosed with stable CAD an...
